1. Please introduce yourself.

my name is XXXXXXXXX and i am eighteen years old and i am also a girl

2. How long have you been making websites?

2021 was patient 0 of my tumblr blog and shortly after that i moved to neocities

3. And what got you into the hobby?

i knew this girl rebecca. she linked her personal neocities into her instagram bio and i thought it was pretty cool. thanks reb for putting me on!

4. What kind of website are you most interested in?

i love websites containing peoples personal thoughts, photos, projects, and artwork. any sort of website housing personal projects where i can picture who the webmaster is, those are the websites i spend most of my time searching for

5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?

i just do stuff as the ideas come to me. the most planning i do is sketching what i want the layout to look like on paper, but apart from that, its just trial and error trying to make my site look visually appealing. its not too hard on this website because i kept the css simple but that means i have to focus more on layout and stuff than color which can be difficult especially when im not 100% what the subpage is trying to convey

6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.

7. What's your favourite part about making websites?

it can be my own personal corner of the internet where i can share (almost) anything anonymously without fear of backlash or judgement and i am also free to express myself in a form of art that isnt common, at least within my circle. i consider this art.

8. And the thing you struggle with the most?

visually appealing website design

9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?

same css to stick with my times-new-roman dotted b+w theme, but i like to switch up the layout every once in a while as html exercise and to keep shit interesting for the viewer.

10. How confident are you with CSS?

i am....okay!! i mean, i managed to throw together this shithole

11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?

who even cares?

12. What is your favourite HTML element?

<img> my beloved....

13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?

well, first you gotta figure out exactly what you want on the webpage, then sketch it out on paper and work your way around from there

14. Do you know JavaScript?

ABSOLUTELY NOT

15. How about PHP?

ABSOLUTELY NOT

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?

yes!!!!!!!!!! times new roman. size 12. 1px letter spacing. white background. dotted borders. 1.3px.

17. Are you more focused on content or design?

content. the design doesnt matter to me as long as i can get all my thoughts out of my head onto this website

18. Do you own a domain name? If not, would you ever want to?

i do not! maybe one day if i strike rich

19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?

i think they can look pretty cool but sometimes they lag my shitty laptop to death. and also, if the content of the website itself is good, then it significantly increases how much i can appreciate the aesthetic

20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?

i dont even bother checking. if i dont know about it, then it cant be a problem to me

21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

bring back buttons!!!!!

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?

visually odd to look at but can be cool at times

23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?

without a doubt similar. my css/html capabilities are lacking and these kinds of thoughts have been living in my head for years now, so the content would undoubtedly stay the same.

24. Are you envious of other people's websites?

Yes

25. What text editor do you use?

the built in neocities one

26. Why do you use that one?

its just convenient. i dont care too much about not being able to see the updates in real time. i just spam the same button and view my site and refresh a jillion times. aint nobody got time for no visual studio!

27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?

on neocities. none of my image files are really that important

28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

its all the same shit man nekoweb is just slightly gayer

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?

approximately 10mb

30. Do you keep local backups of your files?

no...but i probably should #dontcare

31. Do you prefer simple or highly visual websites?

for my own website, i prefer simple, that way i can focus more on the content of the website itself rather than aesthetics, because thats the part that matters the most to me. from a viewing standpoint, i guess i can say both dont matter as long as the content fits/is good

32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?

black and white and black and white and black and white and black and white and black and white and i guess blue when you hover links

33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?

34. Do you have many webmaster friends, or is it a solitary hobby?

i have ZERO. this is for me and me alone! nobody else in the real life world likes this stuff!

35. Do people in your real life know about your website?

only the ones that know how to keep secrets. jacob knows and i trust him. i talk about deeply personal stuff on here sometimes so id rather it all stat anonymous.

quite often! as of current im very fixated on this website so its been nearly every day ive added or edited something.

37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?

i do not change it much because i really like what ive got going on. the most i do is tweak it for optimization/mobile use (which im still working on).

38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?

me + my hobbies, which in a way, are a part of me. consider it a digital portfolio of sorts combined with a diary.

39. Do you do web design professionally?

lol

43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?

never ever

49. Are you happy with the way HTML and CSS currently work?

im pleased! there is nothing i can think of to optimize it

50. What are practices that you think people should avoid?

im sooo guilty of this but fixed heights have got to go. use min-height or let the content define height. also inline styles in images and stuff. gotta move all that to css. i also tend to wrap EVERYTHING in divs, like i completely forget about semantic tags. my brain just isnt wired in a way where it makes sense to me. generic tags for life!

macOS specifically tahoe!

56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?

not really. i know macOS gets a lot of hate because its not very compatible with shit but ive had my macbook since 2019 and i plan to have it for many more years. it was a gift from my dad and i just dont have the funds to replace it. this macbook has seen so many different phases of mine and it contains sooo many historical photos and apps and screenshots and such. its just too much effort to replace, plus, id have to learn how to use a different OS.

do. not. copy. code. do that shit yourself. pry apart open source code. dig through it and tweak it and do whatever the fuck you want to it because that is the easiest place to learn. but for the love of god, do the work yourself and dont discredit the others who took the time to learn it

my brain doesnt really work that way. i just do whatever fits my website

71. Do you spend longer on the HTML or the CSS?

definitely the html. the css is the same on pretty much every subpage of mine, so usually i just copy and paste it from my index or smth. the html is the most time consuming because it varies from page to page.

72. Have you ever made a page with no CSS? It's useful for your thoughts.

i have not!

never ever. wayyyyyyyy too much work. i only make them for myself when i need them.

all. the. time. its my favorite when they leave little notes for whoever's viewing it..like easter eggs

a combination of w3schools as ive mentioned previously and tearing through old code! i just go through it and tweak it and decimate it and tear it apart and glue it all back together until things make sense. and i do this over and over again until my pattern recognition skills kick in and i realize i almost know what im doing.

i had like 100 bookmarks of other peoples websites that i recently purged. if someone bookmarked mine at first id feel flattered that they think my htmlslop is bookmark-worthy but that feeling would fade to embarassment knowing the content of what i write on here.

emotional idiots like me. i hope that through reading the shit i write, somebody somewhere will find comfort in the fact that we share the same irrational thinking and autism.

88. Have you ever been interested in XHTML?

i dont know if i have it in me to learn a different set of syntax rules but if it has benefits then maybe
